May the force be with you again in 2017!
Disney and Lucasfilm held their annual shareholders meeting today in San Francisco to discuss everything imaginable not named Star Wars 1313. Walt Disney C.C.E. Bob Iger has been helming promotional efforts for arguably the biggest release this year, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which arrives on December 18, 2015.
The second installment in the new trilogy, Star Wars Episode VIII has officially been dated for May 26, 2017; and will be directed by Rian Johnson, rumored since last summer, but Disney finally confirmed today. If that news didn’t get you excited, Lucafilm announced their first ever Star Wars spinoff, Rogue One will be making its theatrical splash December 16, 2016. The Gareth Edwards-directed standalone film starring Felicity Jones is set to begin filming in London this summer. Unfortunately, Disney and Lucas were both quiet on the second spinoff directed by Josh Trank (see: Chronicle), but we at least get clarity on Rogue One and Episode 8.
For now, enjoy Force Awakens this holiday, which will see its original cast members Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill return, 30 years after the events of the timeless classic, Return of the Jedi.
