HBO has officially given season three of True Detective the green light, with Oscar winner Mahershala Ali starring in a main role. Today, they’ve shared new details about the show, including the plot. “The next instalment of True Detective tells the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods,” they say.
Series creator Nic Pizzolatto, who hasn’t directed an episode before, will direct alongside Jeremy Saulnier (Green Room, Blue Ruin). Nic Pizzolatto wrote the entire season, with David Milch serving as co-writer for the fourth episode.
“I’m tremendously thrilled to be working with artists at the level of Mahershala and Jeremy,” says Pizzolatto. “I hope the material can do justice to their talents, and we’re all very excited to tell this story.”
