Warner Bros. Reportedly Planning ‘Lord of the Rings’ Series for HBO, Netflix or Amazon

Young Hobit coming in 2019?

It looks like Warner Bros. Pictures is looking to plan an official live-action Lord of the Rings series, with the help of Amazon. Following the October exit of Amazon Studios head, Roy Price, the retailer-giant is planning to move into The Culver Studios in December. The potential show centered around the J.R.R. Tolkien’s popular book series, is currently being shopped to Amazon, for a possible roll-out on their streaming service. However, Warner and the J.R.R. Tolkien estate have also approached both HBO and Netflix, which we’re assuming both will be willing to jump in a bidding war.

Although a deal is not done yet, it’s looking like Amazon is being aggressive in looking to absorb some of the audience HBO loses before 2020, when the main entry series of Game of Thrones concludes. While the book series for Rings lacks all of the sex-and-violence Thrones provides, their books are actually finished – something that gives them an edge in negotiations.
