X-Men’s ‘The New Mutants’ Casts Rosario Dawson & Shares New Film Details

Welcome to the XMU, Ms. Dawson!

The X-Men Universe is set to see major new additions to their universe. Following the events of Logan, spin-off projects are set to be a large part of 2018. With Deadpool 2 and X-Men: Dark Phoenix well into production, more details have finally emerged for the upcoming New Mutants project.

This week, 20th Century Fox has revealed that Rosario Dawson is set to double-down on her Marvel Comic character duties, as she’ll be joining the X-Men Extended Movie Universe next year.

She’s currently in final negotiations with Fox Films to play the role of medical doctor, Dr. Cecilia Reyes for New Mutants. Game of Thrones star, Maisie Williams, is set to star as Wolfsbane, with Anya Taylor-Joy assuming the role of Magik. Rosario will finally get powers in the film, having the ability to generate a protective bio-field around herself. In related news, Fox has also confirmed that the spin-off will be a horror film – taking a different route from traditional comic releases.

During an interview with EW, director Josh Boone said, “We are making a full-fledged horror movie set within the X-Men universe. There are no costumes. There are no super-villains. We’re trying to do something very, very different.” We’re assuming the premise of every XMU secondary project will shy away from doing anything similar to the main franchise, given this latest news.

Look for a possible teaser this holiday, as The New Mutants opens in theaters on April 13, 2018.
