21 Savage Talks “ISSA” Album, His Come Up and Makes A Knife

These Genius IRL episodes always take artists to places they’ve never been and 21 Savage could have never imagined going to a blacksmith to make an actual knife from scratch. From all the meme’s that came out for “Issa Knife” and the Internet going viral with it, 21 sat down with Rob Markman to talk about that, the meaning behind the knife, his new album and more.

Savage said that the knife tattoo came from the classic movie Scarface and he didn’t understand the meme’s at first. Though he didn’t go deep into explaining the meaning, he doesn’t mind the fact that people are turning his pain into slang for society.

He also explains how he got to work with Future, Drake and Metro Boomin and how Sonny Digital was the one who pushed him to really go hard with the rap shit.

Not only that, but 21 broke down the meaning of ‘trap,’ why you shouldn’t box him into the ‘Mumble Rap’ category, who influenced him at different ages and what his message is in the music. He’s basically talking about his life, what he went through and is going through.

Interestingly enough, he said he and Metro have about four Savage Mode‘s on deck because they recorded that album throughout a one year period. Will we see another one soon? Stay tuned.
