Universal Zulu Nation founder, Afrika Bambaataa was recently featured in an episode for Fuse TVs Crate Diggers. Known for creating the term “Hip-Hop,” Bambatta’s vinyl collection was showcased at Ithaca’s Cornell University Library. Cornell’s Assistant curator of hip-hop collection, Ben Ortiz welcomed us to one of Hip-Hop Holy Grails, which contained many records the legendary South Bronx DJ used in many of his sets across the world.
Ortiz went through a slew of boxes containing multiple genres of vinyls Bambaatta used in his sets dating back to the 1970s – which remain untouched. Continue below for a rare inside look at one of the most iconic record collections that helped define Hip-Hop.
