The stream wars just got real in terms of market share in the United States because the horse that started the race later has now surpassed the first to do it.
According a Reuters source familiar with the situation, Apple Music now has 28 million paid subscribers in the U.S., officially passing the 26 million paid subscribers that Spotify has. While this is a monumental feat, Spotify still holds the more overall users because of their free tier.
As it was reported in November, Spotify holds 87 million paid subscribers worldwide.
It might be a while until Apple Music amasses the numbers that Spotify has globally, but it is very interesting that they have already taken over the market in the U.S. Lowkey, Spotify might need to ramp up the promo overseas.
