Belly on Gaining Creative Freedom with JAY-Z & Pausing Mainstream Content

Belly – Mumble Rap [Album Stream]

Earlier this weekend, Belly was guest on Zane Lowe’s Apple Music show to announce and debut music from his new album, Mumble Rap. The project, which has bulk production from OVO Sound’s Boi-1da, has quickly became one of our favorite releases in recent months.

In the sit-down interview, he opens up The Notorious B.I.G. being his biggest influence, as he learned the entire Ready to Die album as kid, from front-to-back – adlibs included.

Things transitioned to him getting a co-sign from JAY-Z, then literally linking up with HOV for a deal with Roc Nation. While still repping X.O. with The Weeknd, Belly touched on having creative freedom, to shy away from providing them commercial hits most are used to.

On his new Mumble Rap project, he wanted to show his lyricism ability; which we’re assuming is likely his favorite release to date. Take a look at a brief video clip and full audio version below.
