Chance the Rapper Discusses ‘Chance 3’ Expectations & Eminem Influence

Look for ‘Chance 3‘ out this Friday!

Two weeks ago, Chance the Rapper finally shared official news on his upcoming Chance 3 mixtape. The project is set to serve as his first solo release since the critically-acclaimed Acid Rap effort in 2013 and he is already calling it better than his collaborative mixtape, SURF, with Donnie Trumpet and the Social Experiment. In the sit-down with Nadeska Alexis and Hamilton actor Lin-Manuel Miranda, Chano felt confident about the upcoming project being well-received by listeners, which they can expect to hear on May 13th. Take a look at excerpts from their interview below.

Chano & Lin-Manuel Miranda are featured in the June/July ‘16 Issue of Complex

Using Eminem as Inspiration:
I definitely feel like I’m racing to write everything I possibly can, like Alexander. It’s very much like Eminem in 8 Mile; you’ve only got one shot. We’ve been conditioned to understand music as a field where you get discovered, and you’re always trying to find that end. So “my shot” is speaking of a variety of shots. When you’re a rapper, you look at every shot as the one you’re supposed to take.

On Legacy:
I’d say it’s very forward. Everything you write as an artist is about your legacy and your catalog, and how you would look in a museum. My father always told me that my legacy would be my children. And I think the most important thing about creating is the way that your music interacts with people, and the period that it’s released in, and the periods that will have it after your death, and how it’ll work in the world.
