The sky is the limit for Dave East, as his trajectory has only been on the rise since signing to Mass Appeal. But shit wasn’t always all good for the Harlem rapper.
Out at SXSW, Dave sat with his label to talk about the days where he wasn’t recognized at the festival, failing at Plan A (which was basketball) and going hard with the rap thing, plus how it feels to live out his dream after starting out from the humblest of beginnings.
“I had literally no connections to no radio station, no blog site, nothing. I was in the projects in my back room with the homies, finding beats on Youtube. We had a mic. The spit-guard was a durag or a sock. I had to tell the whole room ‘Be quiet, I’m about to record!’ I come from that.”
Now he’s on stage with Lil Wayne and selling out shows on his own. And it’s only the beginning.
