Deconstructed with Scum Beatz: The Making of Blueface “Thotiana”

At this point, we all know that Blueface‘s “Thotiana” is the hottest song in the streets, only because everyone and their mother has been remixing the instrumental.

Genius sat down with Scum Beatz, who produced the beat, to talk to him about how the song came about and how he even linked up with Blue in the first place. As he put it, they knew each other from playing football in high school and it wasn’t until they graduated, years later, that they linked musically.

The beat is only comprised of eight sounds, but according to Scum, the open hats and bass line is what made the whole beat to him. It was also interesting to hear him say that he didn’t know what to think of his raps at first.

Even when he listened to “Thotiana,” he thought he was off beat. He kept it a buck.

In what we haven’t seen before, Scum called Blue during the interview to ask him what remix he liked the best and what he felt like when he first heard the beat.

You can watch the beat being made up top.
