DMX Discusses L.A. Meeting with Tupac in 1996

Listen to DMX’s interview with N.O.R.E.

Last week, DMX was the next guest on Noreaga’s buzzing Drinking Championship Podcast. During the nearly 30-minute conversation, the legendary Yonkers rapper opened up on his early beginnings in the rap game and how Puff Daddy declined on signing him before his major deal.

Three weeks later before the ink went dry with Lyor Cohen and Russell Simmons, Puffy approached him and offered double what he was set to receive from the majors. After turning down the Bad Boy CEO, he discussed becoming the first rapper ever to have two platinum albums in the same year, with It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot and Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood.

Before things ended, N.O.R.E. asked his long-time cohort if he ever met Tupac, which X revealed for the first time ever seeing Makaveli during 1996 for a brief moment. In the midst of their meeting, Darkman questioned how his Mr. Shakur was moving in Hollywood – citing he wasn’t originally from Los Angeles and said he didn’t have his day-one homies out there for protection.

Take a listen to more of the entire conversation below.
