FORBES: Wealthiest Hip-Hop Artists 2017

Here’s the Wealthiest Hip-Hop Artists of 2017

FORBES is back with their annual wealthiest hip-hop artists list, as Puffy continues to dominate his place in the elite collective. Thanks to his lucrative deal with Cîroc vodka, Deleon tequila, water brand Aquahydrate and REVOLT TV, the Harlem mogul is closing in on billionaire status.

However, JAY Z made a historic 30 percent jump ($200 million in 12 months), to climb Dr. Dre in rankings for the first time in over three years. Following a $200 million investment from Sprint for TIDAL, the streaming service is now worth a reported $600 million.

With Birdman breaking an even $110 million from last year, both Dr. Dre and Drake saw a $30 million increase of their pockets from 2016. It’s unclear which of these top three superstars will become the first billionaire FORBES recognizes, but our bet would go to S. Carter at this rate.

Take a look at the starting five and a description of the analytics used to calculate the numbers.

Disclaimer: In order to create Forbes Five list, we follow the same procedures used to calculate our list of the world’s billionaires: looking at past earnings, valuing current holdings, leafing through financial documents and talking to analysts, attorneys, managers, other industry players and even some of the moguls themselves to find the details.
