FORBES published an article today saying that Hip-Hop and R&B are the most dominant genres in the United States, surpassing Rock for the first time ever. The news comes from Nielsen Music, who combined both genres to

According to Nielsen Music, the two genres combined have been listened to the most this year (roughly around 25.1% of the total music consumption has been from them), more than rock (which was at 23%). But don’t get it twisted, Rock is still towering in sales because they account for about 40% of them in the U.S.

As of now, Kendrick Lamar‘s DAMN is the most popular album, while Ed Sheeran‘s “Shape Of You” is the most popular song of the year (followed by MigosBad and Boujee” at No. 2) up to this point. It should also be noted that Chance The Rapper‘s Coloring Book is the most on-demand streamed album this year.

One time for Hip-Hop. It started out in the park, now it’s made it this far.
