James Blake Says Frank Ocean’s New Music Is Better Than ‘Channel Orange’

Almost four years have passed since Frank Ocean released his debut album Channel Orange, and fans are getting more and more impatient as the days go by. However, James Blake, who recently worked with Frank on a number of tracks from The Colour in Anything, had shared a few words about his long-awaited material with Rolling Stone.

“His music was a huge influence on the way I was writing the record, the way I was writing melodies.” Intriguingly, Ocean’s Channel Orange was not the record that grabbed Blake’s attention. “I was more of a fan of him when I heard his newer music,” Blake noted. “It’s better. You grow, you improve, you nail a new message to the board. He’s had time to mature. It’s really cool to watch.”

Channel Orange may have been the project to propel Frank to stardom, but it sounds like he’s improved his music since. Back in March, producer Malay said people are going to be “pleasantly surprised” about the new album.
