In the latest episode of Pitchfork’s ‘VERSES’ series, Jay Rock broke down one one of his favorite songs of all time: 2Pac’s “Heartz of Men” off All Eyez on Me.
Rock heard the song for the first when his uncle was playing it outside in a parking lot in the projects. “Man he means a lot,” Rock said about Pac. “He instilled that realness and that raw, you get what I’m saying, and you could tell it come from the heart.”
Rock spits some of the lyrics and explains how they relate to him, and wants people to learn from the OGs. “Just do the Googles, just go back and study the greats,” he said.
