If you’re still bumping Jay Rock‘s Redemption album, these “Road To Redemption” episodes should show you how much of a struggle he went through to get to this point in life. In the second episode titled “Life’s A Gamble,” Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, Dave Free and Punch speak on those early Rock days when he signed to Warner Bros. and shit was popping. From getting in the studio with Lil Wayne and learning about his work ethic and intensity, to touring across the country and getting shit popping, just to see everything stall thanks to label politics.
They all speak on how it was after they left the label (with the van) and starting over from scratch. Though it was tough, they learned what not to do.
Those lessons helped with Kendrick’s rise because of the pitfalls they went through with Jay. All of those failures only made Top Dawg Entertainment smarter. They knew how to handle shit from then on, as far as labels go.
