JAY Z’s Tidal Music Service Loses 2nd CEO in Three Months

The criticism of Tidal continues following latest CEO boot

In just one week, Apple is set to launch their long-awaited subscription-based audio service, Apple Music. Like TIDAL and Spotify, Apple Music is set to have unlimited on-demand streaming for many artist like Drake and Pharrell, who’ve decided to ink exclusive deals with the brand. Last April, Peter Tonstad started his stint as chief executive for the streaming service, after its previous CEO parted ways with JAY Z’s company.

According to reports from North Europe outlets and The Wall Street Journal, Tidal has lost yet another chief executive today, following his resignation this week. With Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Rihanna, and Madonna another other superstars helping launch the product earlier this year, JAY’s company has seen various layoffs since the departure of original CEO, Andy Chen. At the present, TIDAL has 777,000 subscribers, in comparison to Spotify’s 22 million, which we expect Apple Music to immediately tap into both markets this summer.

The company will now run by executives in New York and Oslo, until a new chief is set in place from Mr. Shawn Carter. Over the weekend, Taylor Swift strong armed Apple Inc. in her public letter to the company, saying she would not allow her content to be streamed on Apple Music, if artists like herself aren’t paid for its first three months. This quickly made the company do a complete 180, retracting back their initial plans to accommodate the 1989 singer’s wishes – which good PR for the world’s largest digital music store isn’t good for any of its competitors, leading up to the long-awaited June 30th launch.

We’ll keep you updated regarding any movements from JAY within the TIDAL brand.
