JAY-Z to Receive 2018 Grammy ‘Salute to Industry Icons’ Award

YOUNG!

Next January, the Recording Academy will officially honor JAY-Z, with the GRAMMY Salute to Icons Award. At the moment, Mr. Shawn Carter is currently tied with estranged friend Kanye West for the most wins in history by a rapper at 21′ who will likely be next up after his big brother.

Back in 1999, he boycotted the biggest event in music, citing that he felt DMX’s debut, It’s Dark and Hell is Hot project was snubbed from winning rap album of the year. Since that time, he’s attended virtually every event since, including performing various times as opener for the show.

Over the summer, he also became the first ever rapper to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, so it’s possible that his 4:44 album could receive an Album of the Year nod.

The 60th GRAMMY Awards go down on January 17, 2018, at the Sheraton in Times Square.
