One day after teasing fans with her short film TRIP, Jhené Aiko is impacting with it in full. The 23-minute semi-autobiographical film was written by Aiko herself, as well as Tracy Oliver (of Girls Trip fame). To summarize the plot before you watch, it’s a movie about “love, loss, and self-discovery.”
In the clip, Jhené is a girl named Penny, who is still dealing with the loss of her brother but happens to find a romantic spark with a certain someone. She is actually looking for her brother’s love in every man she comes across, that empty hole in her soul because of her loss is starting to become more evident.
As you will hear, there is original poetry by Aiko across the film, as she learns to let go of that hurt through various ways we all turn to during grief.
