Kanye West Makes Platinum History with ‘TLOP’

Congrats to Yeezy, Rick Rubin & Noah Goldstein!

Last year, Kanye West released his long-awaited The Life of Pablo, which was exclusive to JAY Z’s TIDAL service. However, after expanding to Apple Music, Spotify and other streaming platforms; the project was streamed 3 billion times worldwide – including 1.5 billion in the states alone.

However, Yeezy gets to celebrate a major milestone, becoming the first artist to earn an RIAA-certified platinum album for streaming only on TLOP. While the album was also available for sale on his website (only .07 of total sales), its was held off Billboard sales charts for multiple weeks.

Due to TIDAL holding their numbers private, the G.O.O.D. Music artist was disqualified from Billboard’s Top 200; which the first streaming-only album to top the charts, was Chance the Rapper’s Coloring Book effort. With Yeezy planning his follow-up to The Life of Pablo and the Cruel Winter compilation album, we’re sure he won’t be taking this achievement for granted.
