Kendrick Lamar Threatened to Remove Music from Spotify after XXXTentacion Ban

The unreleased TDE playlist coming to soon to Spotify

Two weeks ago, Spotify removed R. Kelly and XXXTentacion’s music from their playlist, after introducing a new public hate content and hateful conduct policy. Well, after receiving backlash from users of the app, multiple artists and employees; the company has backtracked.

According to Bloomberg, Spotify told music executives that they planned to restore XXX’s content back to playlists, which came after internal rifts and a public outrage in the process.

Soon, Spotify Chief Executive Officer Daniel Ek and head of artist relations Troy Carter received calls from representatives of several acts – including Kendrick Lamar who expressed frustration.

King Kung Fu Kenny reportedly threatened to pull his music, along with those other unnamed executives, if the company maintained its current policy. Top Dawg Entertainment President, Punch also commented on the situation saying, “Whoa. Are they censoring the music? That’s dangerous.”

This is interesting, considering Top Dawg said he was readying an official TDE playlist on Spotify – featuring unreleased music from the entire camp. Let us know in the comments what you think of TDE drawing the line and whether or not you agree with Spotify’s censorship rules.
