Over the past few years, weâve seen hip-hip biopics come at the forefront of mainstream cinematic releases. Unfortunately, a few of our greats like Makaveli and Eazy E werenât on hand to properly have their stories told on the wide screen; with others depicting them in ways they felt comfortable.
Others like 50 Centâs Get Rich or Die Tryinâ and Notorious from Bad Boy Films have delivered quality releases. Fiftyâs was more of a prequel and present-day release, considering he was the King of rap at the time. However, the one gripe many had a beef with on the Biggie film, was the way Lil Kim was portrayed. Considering she cared more about Biggie than any person heâs ever met outside exception of his immediate family; many felt she deserved better on the film.
Now, a few days ago, Lil Kim revealed that she wanted Teyana Taylor to portray in her official biopic. However, before reaching out to the Harlem great, she wants to see if she can find someone from her neighborhood of Brooklyn to make the project authentic as possible. The reason why this information is so large for the hip-hop community, is because Lil Kim is the only person that will honestly tell the story of The Notorious B.I.G..
Thatâs not to overlook her iconic contributions to music; but closure for fans of her best friend is something we may never see if she doesnât do it. Teyana, whoâs likely to emerge as an actor and director down the line, could deliver an OSCAR-worthy performance only she can do for Kimmy.
Beyond his come-up in the game and fame, that was seen on Notorious, weâll get a real look at Christopher away from the lights. This will also reveal rare stories like Kimmy Blanco looking out for Biggie with royalty payments and having his as the executive producer on every album sheâs released for his kidâs estate. We expect everything to be told from their story, including the verbal altercations and certain fallouts during periods of time.
Throughout her career, many forget sheâs the first female rapper to bring sex appeal to the male-dominated genre â which has inspired virtually every rapper following her. Aside from her story thatâs never been told to the public; this is likely to be Kimâs ode to her late best friend. Sheâs one of the few rare people in the game to have a nearly 30-year career and not be at the age of 50 yet. Other situations to be discussed will likely be the fallout with Foxy Brown, Nicki Minaj and her going to prison for not snitching.
Lil Kim is literally the last of a dying breed to honor the code of the streets and keep her head high while doing it. Sadly, this happened during her second major run, as she had a hit-single before going on the inside. Kim is one of the rare few to be around real street individuals in the day, then hours later taking over the NYC nite life with her friend Kim Kardashian.
Off the top of our head, other films we want with good people, that tell their truth always are LL Cool J, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and The Lox.
