A Management Company Sues Cash Money Over Drake Profits

Lil Wayne may have put Drake on the map but who discovered him has always been questioned. Now, that topic is being taken to court a few times over because of a legal fight over profits.

Aspire Music Group (a management company) claims to have signed Drizzy back in 2008 and went on to sign a deal with Cash Money, entitling them to 33% of the money made from Drake recordings. The complaint wants Cash Money to turn over all financial information from the earnings made, so they could pay Aspire their full share of revenues, plus damages.

But there’s more. James “Jas” Prince is suing Aspire because he claims he’s due 22% of their 33% they should be receiving from Cash Money, which he hasn’t been paid yet. Jas has been waiting for Aspire to sue Cash Money this whole time.

Not only that, but he is suing Aspire co-owner Derrick Lawrence and his On the Road company in a separate lawsuit over Drake profits.

Considering Drake is one of the biggest artists in rap (if not the biggest artist), it’s no surprise why everyone involved wants to cash in. The 6 God had a monster year in 2016 and is poised to repeat the same success this year as well. That’s mad profits to get a cut from.
