Maxwell fans have been waiting a long time for new music from the R&B veteran and are way overdue for an album. Unfortunate circumstances actually caused him to postpone his BlackSUMMERS’night but it seems like everything has been cleared up and are ready for the effort. “Lake By The Ocean” is that first tease from the upcoming project, which now has a release date of July 1.
He explained the meaning of the song during a Facebook Q&A:
“Basically, the song represents falling in love after a very tough trial period in life and finding contentment in the smallest things next to the biggest things. Being content in a lake when you have an entire ocean near you is the epitome of true happiness. That you don’t really need more; that you have more within the person that you’re sharing whatever that experience is.”
Aside from his album being released this summer, Maxwell will also be headlining this year’s Essence Fest, so stay tuned for more from him in the coming months.
