Meek Mill Calls for Criminal Justice Reform in New York Times Op-Ed

Meek Mill was released from prison earlier this year and has been speaking out on the criminal justice system ever since. Today, the rapper has published an op-ed for The New York Times and spoken out about reform in a powerful new video.

“The criminal justice system has a set of rights created to protect you. But do you think it’s really protecting us?” Meek says in the video. “You have the right the remain silent. But that really means — you have the right to be silenced. Doubted. Interrogated. Suspected. The color of your skin can and will be used against you in the court of law.”

“Even if you get out, you still not free,” he continues. “When you’re an ex con, they have the right to deny you a bank account, deny you a mortgage, deny you a job, deny your vote.”
