Nipsey Hussle Explains Why Unreleased Singles with Cardi B & Future Were Left Off ‘Victory Lap’

Coming soon?

During GRAMMYs week, Complex Magazine caught up with Nipsey Hussle to discuss his nomination for best rap album. In the conversation, he touched on wrapping up the conclusion of the first chapter in his career, the independent grind. Now, the Los Angeles King is continuing to evolve as an entrepreneur and businessman, even acquiring ownership of an entire mall.

However, Nip discussed more about Victory Lap, including teasing his open of his last album titles, Exit Strategy. He went to say, “I got an album concept called Exit Strategy, that might be one of my last ones. It’s a term they use in business when you build companies. You create an exit strategy as you make a company. You don’t wait till you’re five years in it; you create an exit strategy as you make the company. So, the exit strategy for a lot of companies is to go public, or to sell.”

He also explained why major singles featuring Cardi B and Future didn’t make the final cut for his project. Nip said, “I had big records. I had a record with Cardi B, I had a record with Future, and these [were] probably hits. But Victory Lap won’t be Victory Lap if you go get to track 9 or track 10 and hear, ‘oh, he’s trying to cover the club record’ or ‘he trying to get to the female audience with this one.’ I wanted it to be just a person telling their life story over the course of an album.”

Hopefully those cuts with Bardi and HNDRXX surface later this year.
