No I.D. Becomes New Head of A&R for Def Jam

Welcome to the new era of Def Jam

Three years ago, Ernest ‘No I.D.’ Wilson became executive vice present of A&R for Def Jam Records. Reports have now confirmed the Chicago hip-hop and R&B producer will now be heading the legendary record label for all A&R activities, after previously working as co-head. This year, he’s had contributions to Jhené Aiko’s official debut Souled Out and Common’s widely-respected effort Nobody’s Smiling – both of which releasing through his ARTium imprint. Def Jam’s CEO, Steve Bartels issued a statement following the pressing announcement,

“In a year where Def Jam has established such new artists as Iggy Azalea, Jhene Aiko, YG, and August Alsina, no one is better suited to creatively represent and expertly guide our label moving forward than No I.D. He is not only a proven hitmaker and creative thinker, but he is a bold leader who is well respected by both the artists and executives alike. Together, we are poised for even greater levels of success.”

In related news, Kyambo “Hip Hop” Joshua will be launched his own boutique label within the Def Jam umbrella. No I.D. will still to oversee his ARTium imprint and will continue his longevity of producing for the biggest names in hip-hop like JAY Z, Kanye West, Drake, Nas, Common and Big Sean among others.
