Today, JAY Z is celebrating his 44th birthday being December 4th. While we still enjoy and respect his artistic craft in the present, we’re fans of the “Old Jay-Z” before he became an international mogul. During the pre Reasonable Doubt era and the early Roc-A-Fella Records days, Jay-Z was entering the game showcasing a lavish lifestyle being an unknown artist in the game at the time. While his best friend Frank White was K.O.N.Y., Jay’s initial plan was to make music just to impress his friends; which is what was showcased in his first solo music videos “In My Lifetime” and “In My Lifetime Remix.”

From driving speed boats, cabin cruisers and racing jet skis in the open waters of Saint Thomas in the Virgin Islands, the Roc-A-Fella camp were doing things most well-known PLATINUM artist couldn’t do in their career. For a debut studio single being a fresh artist at the time, Jay was one of the first rappers to use music visuals to gravitate fans to him that didn’t know his past clever lyrics and fast wordplay on previous features.
