Rapsody Talks Grammys, Kendrick Lamar and Hip-Hop in Trump Era

Rapsody has been getting the mainstream credit she deserves lately, and it’s been a long time coming. The North Carolina rapper recently sat down with Larry King for an interview, where she talked about everything that’s going on in her life right now.

She speaks on being nominated for Best Rap Album at the Grammys and being the only woman nominated, comparing this era and the ’90s where she grew up listening to Lauryn Hill, Queen Latifah, Salt-N-Pepa and Missy Elliott.

Rap goes into detail about Kendrick Lamar putting her on a platform with her feature on To Pimp a Butterfly, as well as their friendship since 2011. “The honesty in his music, he has no fear, and he’s himself, he doesn’t chase anything but what he sees in the mirror, I think that’s what makes him special,” she says.

She also talks a little bit about the power of hip-hop in the Donald Trump era.
