Salaam Remi has put together a stellar lineup for a cover of Syl Johnson’s 1969 song “Is It Because I’m Black.” It features vocals from Black Thought, Cee-Lo Green, Anthony Hamilton, Stephen Marley and Syleena Johnson.
“I view this song as one of the greatest songs of the last century, and I’m proud to be able to make more people aware of it as it’s message is so strong and the people of the world really need it now,” Salaam says.
The track will appear on Remi’s upcoming Black on Purpose project, which arrives in August with other features from Nas, Jennifer Hudson, Teedra Moses, Bilal, Busta Rhymes, Doug E Fresh, Chronixx and more.
