Artists to keep an eye on

It’s always hard to predict which artists will successfully make it to the mainstream, because there’s so many factors that can deter those predictions. Nobody has a clear formula and/or judgement about what people will like, but some have a good ear for it. You can never anticipate what type of music fans will gravitate towards, even if labels and managers put it in your face. There’s always the chance someone is going to flop.

Spotify is trying to bridge the gap a little bit, talking to industry insiders and going off data from their 50+ million subscribers to look into the magic ball and predict who might pop in 2015.

You should be familiar with some of the artists because you might have seen them here on OS, but most of the list will probably be a blank slate for you. Remember, some of these folks are signed to major labels, some come from indie circles, and they’re all in different genres.

If you want to discover some new music before your friends, take a gander at the playlist they compiled, featuring artists that they think will get a break next year.
