Staff Picks: Albums We Listened To In 2014

As always, I decided to keep my list mostly west coast and go with some of the artist I listen to on a regular. Groovy Q started the year off right delivering his debut album Oxymoron and Bompton’s own YG gave us a graphic description of his side of town. Newcomer,s Isiah Rashad and Your Old Droog gave my iPod a daily dose of lyrics, and Mr. “I Don’t Get Tired” Kevin Gates and the Snowman Jeezy fulfilled my trap needs.

Overall, the standout album of the year to me had to be Freddie Gibbs & Madlib’s “Piñata”. Gangsta Gibbs kept his aggressive lyrical street approach over Madlib’s signature soulful beats and it worked perfectly. Mr. controversy Chris Brown also delivered a top notch comeback album to silence the critics.
