Stormzy Opens Up About His Battle with Depression

Stormzy has been everywhere over the past few weeks, and for good reason. His excellent debut album, Gang Signs & Prayer, dropped last Friday and is tipped to top the UK charts at the end of the week. The South London MC has been getting interviewed all week, but none have hit home quite as hard as his chat with Channel 4 News.

Stormzy talks about what this moment feels like, being brutally honest within his music, showcasing depth to grime and mental health. “For me it was a realization of how fragile we are as humans, in the most beautiful way possible,” he says about his battle with depression. “You almost realize how important it is to keep loved ones around you, to keep yourself focused and sane, and all these things. That was a world that was so alien to me, I just used to think you just get up, march on.”

“What convinced me to talk about it was the fact that if there’s anyone out there going through it, I think for them to see that I went through it, would help.”
