SZA Explains How “Supermodel” Was Recorded

It’s SZA season and she proved why she belonged in the game with her CTRL album. From performing on Saturday Night Live to being nominated for GRAMMYs, the TDE princess has been getting all of the accolades for her work. It wasn’t always like this, though.

When the album was in its recording stages, one thing SZA didn’t doubt was her single “Supermodel.” From the moment she came up with the melody, she knew she loved it. In a conversation with GQ, she tells the magazine that it’s her favorite song on the album.

Pharrell tried putting drums on the track after she did the one-take, but turns out, they didn’t quite fit. She preferred actual drums being played live. By the time Kendrick Lamar heard it, he was sure she had to put it on the album. The rest is history.

Stay tuned for SZA to perform at the GRAMMYs.
