Wale Talks Label Move, Exchanges with J. Cole on Breakfast Club

Wale recently stopped by The Breakfast Club for the first time since signing a deal with Warner Bros. Records.

In the interview with DJ Envy and Charlamagne Tha God, he opens up about the label move. “I just thought it was time,” he said. “They’re moving in a different direction. I also think that they’re very good at the job, but I think that they specialize is a specific demographic, or sub-genre if you will. I just think it’s time for me to get my own situation and make my own choices.”

Wale also addresses J. Cole’s “False Prophets” record and why as friends, they didn’t have a conversation over the phone instead. “There weren’t no dissing involved,” he said. “Maybe for the shock — maybe he wanted to get it to me another way. Cole always tells me I don’t listen — I think sometimes he don’t listen, but that’s what makes it so close. It’s very raw and uncut.”

He also talks about staying with Maybach Music Group, the music he’s making now, what bothers him about the industry, the impact of his daughter, Drake vs. Pusha T and much more.
