Amanda Nunes Knocks Ronda Rousey Out in First Round in UFC 207

This fight had hype through the roof and was a great way for the UFC to send off 2016. But it ended faster than expected and not in the result some would want.

Amanda Nunes gave Ronda Rousey that work, winning through a first-round TKO in 48 seconds for UFC 207. Nunes was defending her title against the former champion, in her first fight back since being knocked out by Holly Holm over a year ago.

From the jump, Amanda came out swinging and Ronda had to defend herself from the barrage of punches being thrown her way. Nunes swung and swung and clocked Rousey so good that the ref had to stop the fight in less than a minute into it. The assault was too much for Ronda to handle.

And still… the defending bantamweight champion of the world: Amanda Nunes.

That’s one bad bish right there.

Rousey’s second loss in a row pretty much puts the nail in the coffin for her UFC career, as the torch is now being passed to Nunes and the next generation of fighters.

Nunes already beat Miesha Tate at UFC 200, Valentina Shevchenko back in May and doesn’t really have competition for the belt, unless Julianna Pena beats Shevchenko next month.

Who in the division will take her belt?

UPDATE: Rousey responded to the loss in a statement to ESPN.

“I want to say thank you to all of my fans who have been there for me in not only the greatest moments but in the most difficult ones. Words cannot convey how much your love and support means to me. Returning to not just fighting, but winning, was my entire focus this past year. However, sometimes — even when you prepare and give everything you have and want something so badly — it doesn’t work how you planned. I take pride in seeing how far the women’s division has come in the UFC and commend all the other women who have been part of making this possible, including Amanda.

I need to take some time to reflect and think about the future. Thank you for believing in me and understanding.”
