The tweets are going off about matchfixing in this one already.

The theme of today’s Brazil vs. Colombia match is certainly the fouls. Between both teams, there were a total of 51 and it actually took 41 of those fouls for a referee to pull out a yellow card. After that, he got trigger happy.

Before all the fouls, though, Brazil was on the scoreboard by the 10th minute thanks to a goal by Thiago Silva. Neymar Jr. crossed it with a corner kick and he put it at the bottom right corner of the net to start the game.

The game continued with foul upon foul for most of the first half, getting called at record speed. Colombia had a few chances to score the equalizer but Júlio César blocked every attempt. The Brazilian defense was holding on strong.

The fouls continued raining down for most of the second half, and in the 64th minute, Thiago Silva got a yellow card, meaning he will be out from the next match.

Then Brazil scored again.

Off a free kick, David Luiz put one in the top right corner of the net with one of the best goals of the entire tournament and gave Brazil the clear 2-0 lead.

In the 80th minute, James Rodriguez scored a penalty from what could have been a red card by Júlio César. Carlos Bacca was driving towards the net, when César clipped him hard and was mildly injured as a result.

It was too little too late, because Colombia would not score again and ultimately sent home at the hands of Brazil.

Brazil celebrates!
