Cleveland Cavaliers Receive Pick to Complete Kyrie Irving & Isaiah Thomas Deal

Danny Ainge plans the future

Nearly two weeks ago, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics shocked the sports world – announced a trade involving Kyrie Irving and Isaiah Thomas. Well, after a physical test last week, the Cavaliers decided that Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and an unprotected 2018 first-round draft pick via the Brooklyn Nets wasn’t enough to deal away their co-captain.

The Cavaliers soon asked for either Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown to be included; but Danny Ainge was reluctant to part ways with more role players. Well, tonight, he sweetened up the deal, adding a 2020 second round pick to officially grant Kyrie his wishes of no longer playing with LeBron James.

As you can see in the picture above, President Ainge’s vision is to pair Kyrie and Gordon Hayward with Anthony Davis, who’s still under contract until summer 2021 (a likely trade could happen in a year or two). At the moment, we don’t expect Cleveland to convince Isaiah to stay past this season, as his unrestricted free agency period will arrive after next June.

Let us know in the comments what you think of the final deal.
