Cristiano Ronaldo has agreed to join Juventus, Real Madrid has confirmed today. The deal is reportedly worth $117m, and sees the forward’s nine-year stay in Spain come to an end.
“I have reflected a lot and I know that the time has come for a new cycle,” Ronaldo said in a letter. “I’m leaving but this shirt, this shield and the Santiago Bernabéu will continue to always feel as my own wherever I am.”
Real Madrid also showed its support in a club statement. “For Real Madrid Cristiano Ronaldo will always be one of his great symbols and a unique reference for the next generations,” they said. “Real Madrid will always be your home.”
Ronaldo leaves Madrid as the club’s top scorer of all time, scoring 451 goals in 438 games. He won 16 titles in total, including the Champions League four times and La Liga twice.
