Where will Dwight head to in free agency?
After publicly calling out the Houston Rockets front office, coaching staff and teammates of national TV last month, it looks like Dwight Howard’s time in Texas is coming to an end. The former star center, who was set to make $23.2 million on a player option for next fall’s 2017 season has officially declined his player option with the team to pursue free agency.
It was known that Dwight had no decision regarding his player option, after the team failed to make a mid-season trade last February. However, after a failed meeting with general manager Daryl Morey and Mike D’Antoni earlier today, to see his offensively involvement would increase, he officially let the team know he would be opting out of his previously mentioned contract.
The market for Howard at a reduced rate is extremely open to contenders, but it’s up to him whether he wants to chase a large contract or join a logical situation to win a championship. During the beginning of last season, he had slight back issues; but after the team fired former head coach Kevin McHale, the writing on the wall for Howard’s stay in Houston was evident.
Let us know in the comments where you think Howard will take his talents this summer.
