The Houston Rockets Fire Head Coach Kevin McHale

Was this even called for?

We guess coming a few games shy of the NBA Finals means nothing, as the Houston Rockets have fired their now former head coach, Kevin McHale. According to league sources via Yahoo Sports, the team has now promoted assistant coach J.B. Bickerstaff – effective immediately.

This comes just after the team’s front office decided to give McHale another extension for his sideline duties over the summer. Houston started the season 4-7 this year, and the team held a player’s only meeting to discuss what they need to do heading forward.

Following a 4-game losing streak and its lack of production from the bench, the team felt it was necessary to part ways with McHale sooner, rather than later.

Now through Bickerstaff, the team plans to put their focus back on the defensive end heading forward. Whether or not this inspires the team to play harder through J.B. remains to be seen, but this move should give the team notice that nobody’s job is safe anymore.
