ESPN To Launch its Standalone Service This Month

For the longest time, people had to subscribe to cable to get ESPN, but not anymore. The network announced it would launch a standalone service in the Spring and the time has come for it to launch. ESPN+ will be the world wide leader in sports’ subscription service, priced at $4.99/month. It is debuting on April 12.

Folks can also opt to pay an annual price of $49.99 instead of the monthly charges.

On the day of its launch, ESPN (the app) will also get a “completely redesigned and reimagined” look. Customers will be able to use ESPN+ through the app and it will not require another application to watch.

As part of the package, fans will get one free MLB game and/or a free NHL game to watch each day. Unfortunately, Monday Night Football will not be part of ESPN+ and local blackouts still apply for games in your area. The network hopes its on-demand library and plethora of boxing, MLS soccer, golf, college and international sports carry the standalone service.

No SportsCenter either.

Can you see yourself subscribing if you can’t watch SportsCenter or MNF, yet have tons of rugby games on ESPN3? Nah, right. Sorry Disney.
