After years of speculation and fans clamoring for this fight to happen, it finally looks two of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the sport will step in the ring. The fight that every boxing fan and even casual fan has been talking about, Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao is happening on May 2 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, one of the most anticipated fights this generation has seen.
The two most prolific boxers of our generation are squaring up in a massive joint venture Pay-Per-View between HBO and Showtime in what may possibly be the richest fight in history.
It will certainly put to rest the age old argument between who the better fighter between these two is and who the history books will write about as the king of this era.
The talk between the two was up and down throughout the past couple of months, with Money Mayweather’s side downplaying the bout and saying it would not happen, but both Manny and Floyd called each other on social media for weeks. The two went back and forth as far as terms of the deal, talking extensively after a Miami Heat basketball game on January 27, putting the plan in motion for good. It seemed like the Top Rank & Bob Arum cold war between both sides had finally been put to rest, at least for the biggest fight of their career.
Floyd Mayweather confirmed the news in his SHOTS account today, giving fans of boxing hope for what could be the biggest fight in history.
“What the world has been waiting for has arrived. Mayweather vs. Pacquiao on May 2, 2015, is a done deal. I promised the fans we would get this done, and we did. We will make history on May 2nd. Don’t miss it!”
The fight is estimated to pull in about $400 million and Mayweather is taking home the bigger percentage of the 60/40 split between the two. Viewers will have to pay $89.95 for the telecast, including $10 more if they want to watch in high definition.
