FORBES: Most Valuable NBA Franchises 2017

It’s crazy that some of the worst teams in the league are still the most valuable franchises, as told by FORBES, but that’s how the climate is right now.

The New York Knicks are in absolute turmoil, from Phil Jackson pissing off all of his players and actual team on the court enjoying another losing season at the top of the NBA Lottery. Will Carmelo Anthony still be around next season?

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers have gotten the No. 2 pick in the NBA Draft two years in a row, so there’s not much to say about how they’ve been playing besides: a historic low. An optimistic Lakers fan might argue that things are looking bright and the young core is only years away from being competitive (as fingers are crossed that Paul George moves back out West).

And that’s who takes the top two spots in this year’s Most Valuable Franchises in the NBA (at $3.6 and 3 billion, respectively), with a surprise third spot by the Golden State Warriors.

Dub Nation is at an opposite trajectory than the top two organizations, currently up 2-0 in the NBA Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers and staring at another NBA Championship trophy in the face. They are dangerous, fun to watch, explosive, and could go down as one of the best teams to play the game. And that was before Kevin Durant joined to the team.

That winning culture is what has catapulted them to the No. 3 spot on the list with $2.6 billion.

Rounding out the Top 5 include the Chicago Bulls with $2.5 billion and Boston Celtics at $2.2 billion. Another surprise in the Top 10 is the Brooklyn Nets, who have been bottom feeding with the Lakers and Knicks the past few years, yet still worth a cool $1.8 billion.

Peep the Top 10 list below.

01. New York Knicks ($3.6 billion)
02. Los Angeles Lakers ($3 billion)
03. Golden State Warriors ($2.6 billion)
