England is having an absolute horrible week. First, the country votes to launch themselves out of the EU. Now their international team lose to Iceland in EURO 2016, BREXITing in the round of 16.
It was a game that the Englishmen should have commanded and won, but it was the polar opposite.
England opened up the score thanks to a Raheem Sterling penalty, which sealed a 1-0 lead after three minutes, when Wayne Rooney put the ball in the back of the net.

Rooney Scores for ENGLAND
But only two minutes after, Iceland equalized thanks to Ragnar Sigurdsson, who received a pass from a long thrown in turned header right in front of the goal. He practically walked the ball into the back of the net against Joe Hart. It was deflating for the English team, who had just taken the lead, but the defending on the play was non existent.

THE EQUALIZER
The score was tied up at 1-1 after five minutes.
Then at the 18-minute mark the unthinkable happened. Kolbeinn Sigthorsson converted on a Jón Dadi Bödvarsson pass, which saw absolutely no English defenders close in on, giving him a square up shot against Hart and getting it past the keeper in shocking fashion. It was definitely a mistake by Joe, but the England defenders didn’t do him any favors.

Iceland Commentator Summarizes How Big The Game Winning Goal Was
In the second half, it seemed like Iceland had more shots than England to seal the game, barely missing on a couple opportunities. Meanwhile, England couldn’t get a footing and continued to look like the inferior team, hardly stopping the Iceland attack. Rashford, Jack Wilshere and Jamie Vardy came in for reinforcements but nothing helped.
The match ended at 2-1.
Roy Hodgson resigned as manager of the English squad immediately after the game. every commentator and fan compared Iceland to Leicester City’s dream season in the English Premier League and ridiculed England for losing this game. They called them an embarrassment. They couldn’t think of enough adjectives to describe their performance. This game will indeed go down as one of the worst losses in the history of English international play.
Just think, how could the team which breeds the richest league in the world lose to an international squad who doesn’t even have a professional team? The entire country of Iceland is just as big as Liverpool. The back pages will have a field day with the news.
The UK needed a win after Brexit and this didn’t help any.
