Jon Jones Stripped of Light Heavyweight Title & Suspended by UFC After Felony Hit-And-Run Charges

Is this the end of Jon Jones in the octagon?

Just months after testing positive for Cocaine usage, Jon Jones has unfortunately gotten into some major trouble. Over the weekend, Jones was involved in a auto accident and allegedly fled the scene Albuquerque, New Mexico. Local police issued a warrant for his arrest on felony hit-and-run charges, which he would turn himself in Tuesday.

This promoted UFC president Dana White to make the decision of stripping Jones of the UFC light heavyweight championship – and ending the possibility of the long-awaited Daniel Cormier rematch that was set for May 23rd on UFC 182. This marks the second time of him violating the organization’s Athlete Code of Conduct Policy.

Touted by many as the top pound-for-pound fighter, reports are saying Jones allegedly ran a red light, striking a car driven by a pregnant woman. She suffered a broken wrist and forearm among various other injuries, which an off-duty police officer witnessed the encounter first-hand and he saw Jones fled on foot from his rental car. Former title contender Daniel Cormier is set to replace Jones in the UFC 182, for a chance at winning the now-vacant light heavyweight title. The 27-year-old will now have time to focus on his pending legal matters.
