Get well, Pipe!
Last night, the Cleveland Cavaliers received a scare, when J.R. Smith had to leave their game last night against the Milwaukee Bucks. During a drive from Giannis Antetokounmpo, JR had contact with the dynamic wing-player and landed awkwardly after their collision.
Just moments before half-time, he would have to leave the game with an injury to his hand, as medical staff would perform X-Ray tests soon after. Following an inconclusive result, the team found out during his re-evaluation that surgery would be needed to repair his thumb.
At the moment, the team is expecting a minimum of four-to-six weeks for Smith to miss action, which could last until almost the All-Star Break in February. With Chris Anderson and Mo Williams out for the entire year, this will hurt the Cavaliers for the short term in a fight for a first-place lead with the Toronto Raptors – who are only a game behind in standings.
In our opinion, this could be a blessing in disguise for back-ups DeAndre Liggins and Jordan McRae to get some extended playing time, if they’re unable to land a solid back-up point guard.
Cavs fears realized today with JR Smith. He will need surgery on his thumb and will be out an extended period, sources said
