After much deliberation and even being offered a piece of OVO Sound Recordings from Drake in Toronto, Kawhi Leonard has finally decided his free agent destination. The best player in the world will be heading to the Los Angeles Clippers, where he’ll sign a four-year deal of $142 million.
This comes after his meetings with the Los Angeles Lakers earlier in the week and Toronto Raptors over the last 48 hours. Jerry West and Doc Rivers were the deciding factors many are believing; but we think the Lakers fumbled last second. That will be revealed at a later date after the buzzing news dies down over the next few weeks.
Prior to joining him home in Los Angeles, Kawhi reached out to Paul George about paring up, and PG13 immediately requested a trade to the Clippers. This happened in a span of 90-minutes before the formal news became public, which we’re assuming the Lakers were blindsided by.
OKC Thunder received five future 1st-round picks, including four being unprotected. This is probably the biggest part of the entire night, as the Clippers have officially gone all in with Kawhi.
The Thunder were the real winners of the night:
OKC gets THREE unprotected first-round picks from the Clippers in this trade (2022, 2024 and 2026)
Two firsts from Miami (2021 unprotected and 2023 protected 1-to-14)
The right to swap picks with the Clips in 2023 and 2025.
