Klay Thompson Tore His ACL in Knee in NBA Finals Loss

Through three quarters, Klay Thompson had 30 points and seemed poised to carry the Golden State Warriors to victory. Then everything changed in the blink of an eye.

During a break away transition play, Thompson dunked the ball but was fouled by Danny Green and landed awkwardly on his left knee. Immediately, he clutched for it and the entire Oracle Arena was in silence, especially after what happened to Kevin Durant in Game 5. Steph Curry was seen throwing the ball in frustration.

Thompson was helped off the court and as he was walking to the locker room, he was instructed to come out and shoot for free throws or he couldn’t return to the game. So, by his own will power, somehow managed to walk on to the court.

That adrenaline must have been pumping.

During the game Doris Burke reported that Klay told his pops that he did not hear anything pop and wanted to come back. The Warriors did not allow that by any means and ruled the Splash Brother out for the rest of the game.

Turns out it was a torn ACL in his left knee.

Dub Nation ended up losing the game, as the Toronto Raptors won their first title in franchise history behind the MVP play of Kawhi Leonard.

As Woj points out, Thompson will be missing a bulk of the 2019-2020 season if resigned and the Warriors are not a shoe-in to even make the playoffs in a tough Western Conference. Plus, they’ll be tied up with cap space even if they do sign him and KD, but they won’t have either of them for a majority of the year.

It’s a tough ending to a great run by Golden State.
